These are a few of my favourite things
What is it that makes us ‘us’ exactly; what defines us? Is it the way we talk? Is it the way we work? Does it come down to where our passions lie in life, or is it something much more complex than that?
While pondering this I decided to take a step back and look at it from a personal viewpoint – what makes me ‘me’? I can go through so many moods and emotions of a day, constantly changing my opinions and points of view, that even I find it hard to define myself!
I realised, while looking around my surroundings and thinking about my daily routine, that the best way to get a snapshot into what makes me ‘me’, is to look at my choices of taste.
For instance, take my favourite television series, namely Spongebob Square Pants, American Dad, Family Guy and The Simpsons. You might get the impression that I have a great appreciation of things that are a little on the zany side and that I love to laugh; well, you would be right! Life can get so heavy and serious sometimes, and when it does, I find that laughter is my best medicine. These shows are the perfect flight of fancy for an escapist dreamer like me!
Those who know about my background in fashion could probably hazard a guess that I am a bit of a girly-girl with a fondness for all things cute and pretty. Perhaps the most obvious indication of this however, is my love of the colour pink. Yes, indeed, pink is my favourite colour and reflects many sides to my personality. Aside from revealing my love of the typically girly in life, I like to think that my bright, bubbly, positive personality is reflected through my love of pink.
Don’t be too drawn in by my attraction to the brightness of pink though, as the dark winter happens to be my favourite time of the year, and for so many reasons. To start off, who can resist the classic image of curling up on a cold winter’s night, all tucked up and warm in bed, mug of hot chocolate in one hand and, of course, a good book in the other? There is nothing I love more than getting cosy and letting my imagination wander as a glistening snow storm swirls outside.
I think winter is my favourite season because, while it captures the contemplative, introspective side of my personality, it also brings out my love of family, friends, fun and festivities. With winter comes Christmas and the party season, and I love nothing more than spending the holidays with those nearest and dearest to me, just having fun and hanging out. My family and friends are the most important people in my life and whether enjoying evenings in by the fire or nights out celebrating, winter time gives me time to relax and enjoy good company.
As an author I spend most of my days working with letters and words, and so no description of me would be complete without talking about how I speak. The one word which I find myself saying all the time is ‘wow’, which I think says rather a lot about my life.
Anyone who follows my diary posts will know that I am fascinated by the world we live in; it doesn’t matter how many places I have been or how many people I have met, I never fail to be amazed by life and this strange but beautiful planet we live in.
The word ‘wow’ has been slipping from my tongue a lot more recently in particular, as I near the release of my first novel. Since uploading the first chapter of my book on Wattpad, I have received some wonderful feedback and messages from fans, old and new, saying that they cannot wait for the book to come out. As an ambitious young author I know that self-belief is vital for me to succeed, and yet, to hear such amazing, positive comments from others has made me so happy; I keep finding myself saying it: wow.
These are just some of the things that make me ‘me’, a unique individual unlike any other!
